End of Year Polls

It's the end of year and we've decided to keep an end of year poll. A sort of diary of the records, films, books. people, and other serious shit we've been into for the last twelve months.

It's sort of like a diary without anything personal. A record of our year in media if you'd like.

Check back for regular updates on this.

Months Later

Since our songs summer rebellion posts following the London riots we went a bit quiet. We have been concentrating on our weekly residency in London.

We are happy at how it is going. A nice fun crowd of people enjoying the deeper, darker sounds seeping out the Lullabies From Hell soundsystem.

Catch us every Friday as part of the LAS VEGAS WOMENS INSTITUTE at THE HIDEAWAY in London town.

Nena - 99 Red Balloons (Space Monkey The System Sucks Edit)

The final song of rebellion is an edit by our very own Space Monkey.

Recorded live.

The song tells how 99 balloons are flying in the sky, where they are spotted by the military who don’t recognize them as balloons but instead think they are some kind of incoming weapon. They immediately put their troops on red alert and call out jet fighters to intercept which ultimately triggers a nuclear war between the two Cold War adversaries. In the apocalyptic aftermath, the song’s narrator stands in the rubble of the city and finds a single remaining balloon. Thinking of someone, he or she then lets the balloon go.

Songs Of Rebellion

In the month of August Great Britain was struck by widespread civil unrest which culminated in riots, looting and burning cars and buildings.

It was fucking ugly people. The only comfort we had in these dark days was thinking of songs that described the emotive pictures we were watching on the television.

No explanation needed really just watch the videos.

Time to cash in?

With the release of the new TRANSFORMERS I got thinking .... how much are my apparantly highly rare and collectable Generation One Transformers toys worth.....

As you can see from the top picture a Generation One Optimus Prime, fully boxed/factory sealed - just like my one - is selling for $6299 ... which is a substantial mark up of the prices paid from new!!!

Kerching!!

Unfortunately being a kid, even though I kept Optimus pristine I had to open Ultra Magnus. As you can see from the above picture opening the box harms the value to the tune of a cool $5000 .... but when it's weighing in at over $1000 its still a good mark up!!

These items however are gonna stay with me for a long time yet. I've kept them for over two decades and can only see the prices getting higher and higher the rarer, older and strangely more popular these iconic robots become.

Source Code

A movie by the director of one of my favorite movies in recent years MOON hits us with another sci-fi thriller...

Again ..... highly recommended!!

Game of Thrones

I went round my friends house the other day and he was going on and on about this. Luckily I had recorded the whole series on my HD box. So I started watching it. I was pleasantly suprised. A bit of a sci-fi feel to one of the story-lines and some memorable characters. highly Recommended!!

"Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death... I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come. "

Penn and Teller - Fool Us

Presented by Jonathan Ross this magic show just kicked it!

WATCH IT HERE

Watching programs on ITV PLAYER is not as fun as you might think. There was tons on adverts which I couldn't skip! I have to remember to set SKY+ in future!

However I must say this had me glued to my seat!

“That's the thing with magic. You've got to know it's still here, all around us, or it just stays invisible for you.”

THE WIRE is a television show that I loved I just never got round to watching the fifth and final series. That time has now come. All movies are off the television this weekend and I shall put all possible available waking time into watching these final episodes.

Actually Idris Elba who plays Stringer Bell is in the BBC's excellent cop show LUTHER

Lady Ga Ga - Judas Röyksopp Remx

Röyksopp are a personal favorite of mine and have been for a good many years.

Here they have remixed Lady Gaga's Judas

Any excuse to post the classic Röyksopp tune What Else Is There with its beautiful video.

Nas - Nasty

Kicking it with an old school vibe Nas is back with a new album called Life is Good

As you may be aware I think Nas is the King.

I've seen him many times and he is a heavy MC.

He's also cool as fuck.... he's got the same Adidas top as me!!

NASTY (Produced by Salaam Remi) -DIRTY by Nasir Jones

James Drake - Bombé & Mr. Caribbean

Did they pick Drake and James Blake because their names rhymed or because they already have a similar sound?

Bombé & Mr. Caribbean two producers from Philadelphia (who to be honest about I haven't really heard before) just dropped this moody mixtape. A brilliantly conceived blend/mash-up/mix - call it what you like.....

A mixtape that according to Mr Caribbean is “… a soundtrack for sippin Robitussun & Alize in an abandoned cathedral, covered in a velvet blanket with a sexy stranger on a dark night…

Lil Wayne - MTV UNPLUGGED

I'm not a massive Lil Wayne fan but I really thought this performance was HOT!

LIL WAYNE - UNPLUGGED

Wayne Unplugged

Dreams

I don't dream of electric sheep. I am not an android.

Wet

Spent hours yesterday watching the Grand Prix on the television. Guess what? Just before the second restart I had to go out! It was alright though because when I got in I just pressed that red button!
Well done Jenson. And I thought Vettel was really gentlemanly at the end of the race!

I was looking for a beach house album of chilled grooves a little bit different and definitely not POP. Something that can hold your attention or if you wanted, you could just pass out and go to sleep listening to! I think after a few cocktails when I'm lounging on my sun bed I could definitely listen to Art Departments The Drawing Board .

Described by the BBC as "a house purists wet dream". I'm not too sure of that... Do androids dream of electric sheep?

Just click through to BRAZIL

BRAZIL

I find it quite strange....it sometimes feels like my brain rules the airwaves.

Highly recommended.

Grosvenor - Night Moves

I first heard this on Hot Chip's DJ Kicks LP. This is currently one of my top played tracks.

Terry Gilliam

After watching Dr Parnassus the other night I have now purchased a the blue-ray of Twelve Monkeys which I will watch after watching Brazil.
I started watching Brazil and was pleasantly suprised at the similarities between the movie and my favorite novel the Orwellian masterpiece that is 1984
.

The problem with sleep is that if you do not get any then everything just feels surreal. Luckily I slept like a baby last night. My cure...Joy Division/New Order "Total"

It was like listening to an old pair of slippers! It reminded me of fighting my sister.

HANGOVER !!

INSOMNIA

It is now 5:30am and sleepiness has still not hit me. This is quite a regular thing which is becoming (unfortunately) something of a habit.

Throughout the night I (re)watched The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus .... I was pleasently impressed.
